Salerno – The accident this morning in Serre, in the province of Salerno, where a tanker loaded with LPG overturned in the Alimenta area, could have turned tragic. The worst was averted by the quick reflexes and composure of the driver, who, noticing a sudden brake failure, took a desperate but decisive action.

The driver, realizing he could not stop the heavy vehicle and seeing the imminent danger to other cars and nearby homes, deliberately chose to steer the vehicle onto a side dirt road. This emergency maneuver caused the tanker to overturn, but prevented a devastating impact and the real risk of an explosion in a residential area.

Rescue operations were immediate. Firefighters arrived on the scene, supported by specialists from the Nuclear Biological Chemical Radiological (CBRN) unit, essential for managing high-risk scenarios such as leaks or handling flammable substances.

After providing first aid to the driver, who emerged shaken but safe from the vehicle, the firefighters cordoned off the area and began the delicate safety operations.

The liquid propane gas is currently being transferred from the damaged tanker to another vehicle, a necessary procedure before the vehicle can be recovered with the help of a crane. Rescue workers say the situation is now under control, and no injuries have been reported.

This is a very serious situation that could have ended horribly; the driver made a difficult decision to save others. Although the tanker overturned, it's good to know that no one was injured. We hope there will be more checks to prevent similar accidents in the future.
