Sant'Agnello - The incident dates back a few months, but the administrative and criminal investigations have only now been concluded. It was a May morning when Carabinieri officers from the Sorrento branch responded to a betting shop in Sant'Agnello following an argument between two women.
On one side, the agency employee, on the other, a visibly shaken mother. It only took a few minutes for the officers to piece together what happened. The investigation revealed that a 17-year-old boy had placed online bets through the center, losing money to the point of accumulating a debt of approximately 800 euros.
After the losses, the minor reportedly told the clerk he needed to go to a nearby ATM to withdraw the money needed to settle his account, leaving a phone number. However, he never returned to the betting shop.
Meanwhile, the boy's phone begins to ring insistently. Cornered and fearful of the consequences, the young man takes refuge with his mother and, in desperation, threatens to take extreme measures if the debt isn't repaid. At that point, the woman goes to the betting shop, sparking the argument that leads to the intervention of the Carabinieri.
The investigations confirmed that the bets had indeed been placed by a minor, in violation of current legislation. The matter was reported to the Customs and Monopolies Agency, which, following an investigation, issued a disciplinary measure.
The betting agency was fined €6.666 and temporarily closed from January 26th to February 4th for failing to comply with regulations protecting minors from gambling.

It's strange that things like this happen in a betting shop. Betting should be better controlled, especially for minors. It's important that stricter measures be taken to protect young people from these situations.
