Rome – A small fire on an electrical cable paralyzed part of Termini Station this late afternoon, throwing rail traffic in the capital into chaos. The alarm was raised around 8:11 PM when smoke began to billow from a service shaft located between platforms 18 and 19.
For safety reasons, power was immediately cut off in the affected area, effectively blocking train traffic entering and exiting ten platforms. The Fire Brigade and Railway Police (Polfer) responded to the scene to assess the situation and prevent the risk of a full-blown fire.
The consequences for commuters and travelers were immediate and severe. Traffic was interrupted or severely affected on several routes: the line to Rome-Fiumicino Airport, the regional railways to Frascati, Velletri, and Albano Laziale, and the long-distance lines to Naples (via Cassino) and Pisa.
Numerous delays and cancellations have been reported. The extent of the disruption and the timeframe for full restoration of normal traffic have not yet been determined, while technicians are working to identify the exact cause of the failure and safely reopen the infrastructure.

There was a real mess at Termini today, people were confused and waiting. The trains weren't leaving, and no one knew anything. I hope they resolve the situation soon for the sake of all commuters.
