Giugliano – The Carabinieri's offensive against drug trafficking along the coast continues unabated, a front increasingly plagued by the presence of unsuspecting dealers, often with no criminal record and far removed from traditional criminal networks.
A rapidly growing phenomenon, confirmed by the numerous arrests made in recent months in Giugliano, Varcaturo, and Castel Volturno.
The latest operation was conducted by soldiers from the Giugliano in Campania Company's operational section, who arrested a 41-year-old local man with no criminal record after a targeted check.
The targeted search in Varcaturo
A search of his home in Varcaturo uncovered a 40-gram block of hashish, as well as a bag containing another 18 grams of the same substance. Also seized were several doses of cocaine and marijuana, two precision scales, and €615 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of drug dealing.
The investigation then continued at a second home of the man, located in Castel Volturno, in the Green Village park, where the Carabinieri found another 18 grams of hashish, three scales, and drug packaging material, confirming an organized and ongoing activity.
The 41-year-old was arrested and taken to Poggioreale prison, where he is being held by the judicial authorities.
The operation is part of a broader crackdown on local drug dealing, which increasingly involves seemingly unsuspecting individuals with no criminal record and a niche in the civil society. This criminal model makes investigative work more complex, but law enforcement is combating it with widespread and targeted checks.
The phenomenon of the domestic mirror
But the fact that most worries investigators and prosecutors is the profile of the arrested man, which mirrors that of many others arrested in recent months: people with no criminal record, often with regular jobs, living in civilian settings and apparently far from the world of drug dealing.
In recent operations conducted in Giugliano, Qualiano, Varcaturo, and Castel Volturno alone, the Carabinieri and the police arrested several "unsuspected" drug dealers, found in possession of drugs stored in private homes, garages, or second homes, along with scales, cash, and packaging materials. This model relies on social camouflage and a small but steady clientele.
This is a domestic, silent form of drug dealing, which reduces the risks associated with traditional drug markets and makes investigations more complex. For this very reason, law enforcement has intensified targeted checks, based on intelligence-gathering activities and targeted searches.
The arrest of the 41-year-old from Giugliano is therefore part of a broader repressive strategy, aimed at targeting not only large-scale drug trafficking but also the widespread and underground network of small-time dealers who, taking advantage of their "normality," fuel the local drug market on a daily basis.
