Avellino– An operation that is shaking up the Irpinia food supply chain. Carabinieri officers from the Castel Baronia forestry unit, along with their colleagues from the territorial force and staff from the Avellino local health authority, have seized a staggering haul: 400 tons of untraceable animal meal stored at a company in Alta Irpinia.
The military raided the plant after a classified investigation. The flour, destined for distribution, was piled up without any documentation certifying its origin and destination. A black hole in the supply chain that could have compromised entire farms.
The risks to public health
But that's not all. 40 tons of animal skins were also found in the warehouse, and a ban on their sale was immediately imposed. All of the hides were seized to determine the presence of markers and contaminants.
The lack of traceability poses a huge risk. These flours may contain prohibited or contaminated animal proteins. The law is strict: only certified products can enter the food chain. The irregularity discovered by the Carabinieri risks having repercussions on the entire livestock sector in Campania.
The investigation is still ongoing. The military is now tracing the material's origin and the company's connections. Meanwhile, the seizure remains the latest act in a relentless war against illicit activities in the Campania food supply chain.
