An 87-year-old woman died today at the burns unit of the Cardarelli Hospital in Naples from severe burns sustained in a tragic domestic accident yesterday in Acciaroli, a coastal hamlet in the municipality of Pollica, in the heart of Cilento.
The dynamics of the accident
According to the reconstruction of the Carabinieri, who intervened on the scene to carry out the necessary investigations, the elderly woman was in her home busy cooking when, for reasons still being investigated but attributable to an accidental event, the sweater she was wearing suddenly caught fire.
The flames reportedly spread rapidly to the woman's clothes, causing burns over large parts of her body.
Her condition immediately appeared desperate to the 118 emergency responders who arrived immediately at the scene of the accident. Despite the timely intervention and emergency transfer to the specialized center at Cardarelli, her clinical condition proved too serious. The 87-year-old died today without doctors being able to save her life.
The investigations in progress
The Carabinieri of the competent company have initiated all necessary investigations to precisely reconstruct the accident's dynamics. The accidental nature of the event is currently confirmed, but investigators are verifying every detail to rule out any liability or malfunctions in the home's electrical systems. The elderly woman's body is available to the judicial authorities for any further investigations.

I agree with you, Elda. Home safety measures are often underestimated, especially for the elderly. I hope this tragedy can serve as a lesson for all of us.
What happened to this woman is truly sad. I can't imagine her family's grief. Accidents at home can happen to anyone; you have to be careful when cooking and use caution.
