Palermo – Anna Falcone, the elder sister of magistrate Giovanni Falcone, the judge assassinated by the Mafia in the Capaci massacre on May 23, 1992, has passed away in Palermo. She was 95 years old and the eldest of Arturo Falcone and Luisa Bentivegna's three children.

Reserved by choice, away from the spotlight, Anna has dedicated her life to preserving her brother's memory with extraordinary dignity, choosing discretion as a form of anti-mafia commitment.

Together with her sister Maria—who has always been more prominent as president of the Falcone Foundation—she made a fundamental contribution to the creation and development of the institution that bears Giovanni's name, today a national reference point for legal education and the promotion of a culture of justice. Her public appearances were few, if any.

Among these, the recent meeting with former footballer Fabrizio Miccoli, who had asked her forgiveness for the offensive remarks he had made years earlier towards Judge Falcone in a wiretapped conversation. A gesture of reconciliation that had moved the Sicilian public. The news of his passing has sparked deep mourning in the city.

Palermo Mayor Roberto Lagalla expressed the collective sentiment with a message of condolences to the family: "The passing of Anna Falcone represents a moment of deep mourning for the city of Palermo. With her reserved manner and extraordinary dignity, Anna Falcone preserved and honored the memory of her brother Giovanni.

Together with her sister Maria, she contributed to the creation of the Falcone Foundation, offering silent but essential support to the dissemination of the values of legality and justice that Judge Falcone embodied.

On behalf of myself and the entire municipal administration, I express my deepest condolences to his sister Maria and to the entire Falcone family, embracing with respect and gratitude a name that remains the moral heritage of our community."

With the death of Anna Falcone, another chapter closes for a family that, for over thirty years, has represented a symbol of civil resistance and loyalty to the values of the rule of law against the Mafia.
