Rome – Major General Domenico Pisani, former Deputy General Commander of the Carabinieri, one of the most authoritative and respected figures in the recent history of the Benemerita, passed away last night in the capital.

He was 92 years old. Originally from Pollica, in the heart of Cilento, Pisani dedicated over forty years of his life to serving the State, distinguishing himself through his competence, moral rigor, and unwavering sense of institutional responsibility.

His name remains inextricably linked to the creation of the Special Operations Group (ROS), the elite unit of the Carabinieri established in 1990 and which has become a national point of reference in the fight against organized crime, terrorism, and more complex crimes.

General Pisani's career has been a steady progression towards the top ranks of the force: after starting out as captain of the Castellammare di Stabia Company, he has held very high-profile positions, including twice Chief of Staff of the General Command, Commander of the 2nd "Podgora" Division and, in the final years of active service, Deputy General Commander of the Carabinieri.

In 2016, in recognition of a life spent defending the legality and security of the country, he was awarded the prestigious Golden Cross of Merit of the Carabinieri, one of the highest internal honours of the Institution.

Despite the weight of his national duties, Domenico Pisani never severed his ties with his Cilento roots. In Pollica (particularly in the hamlet of Cannicchio) and throughout the surrounding area, he was known and respected as "General Pisani," a leading figure not only for his professional prestige but also for his human qualities: discretion, elegance, and attachment to his homeland.

Numerous messages of condolence and expressions of affection have recently arrived from Cilento from friends, acquaintances, and the local community, who remember a man capable of combining the authority of his rank with a rare humanity and a profound respect for others.

The funeral will be held on Friday, January 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the parish of San Roberto Bellarmino in Rome. The coffin will then be transferred to Cilento, where burial will take place in the Pollica cemetery.

With the passing of General Pisani, the Carabinieri loses one of its most significant figures, while Cilento bids farewell to an illustrious son who honored his land with absolute dedication to democratic institutions.
