Curti – A swift and decisive intervention by the Carabinieri yesterday afternoon, Friday, January 30, 2026, stopped an episode of domestic violence in the center of Curti, a small town in the Caserta hinterland. Officers from the San Prisco station arrested a 50-year-old man from the province, accused of mistreatment of family members or cohabitants.
The alarm was raised by a call to 112: witnesses reported an assault in progress on Via Sanzio. At the scene, the Carabinieri found the man verbally and physically assaulting his wife, a 45-year-old woman living in the upper Caserta area, in the street. The argument had escalated amid an ongoing separation between the two spouses, marked by strong tension that had built up over time.
Years of abuse reported by the victim
The 45-year-old woman, visibly distressed but determined, immediately filed a complaint against her husband. She told the police a story of prolonged abuse: according to her complaint, the episodes of mistreatment began as early as 2008, resulting in a pattern of psychological and physical abuse and constant control that worsened with the recent marital crisis.
The Carabinieri immediately implemented the "Red Code" procedures, the protocol introduced in 2019 (Law No. 69 of July 19, 2019) to expedite interventions in cases of gender-based and domestic violence. The competent prosecutor's office was informed in real time, allowing for a swift judicial response.
The arrested man had no weapons in his possession.
The investigations conducted did not reveal any weapons possession by the man. The victim, supported by the military throughout the intervention, has currently chosen not to access a women's shelter. This decision has been respected and managed according to the protocols established by law, which nevertheless require ongoing monitoring and support.
By order of the Judicial Authority, the 50-year-old was transferred to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, where he is currently at the disposal of the judiciary.
A persistent phenomenon in the Caserta area
Curti's episode occurs within a regional context, unfortunately still marked by numerous cases of domestic violence. In the Caserta area and the province of Naples, in 2025-2026 alone, several arrests were recorded for aggravated mistreatment, often resulting in flagrante delicto during escalating arguments or due to late reports supported by the Red Code.
The prompt action of the Carabinieri and the decision of a citizen to call 112 allowed an attack that could have had far more serious consequences to be nipped in the bud.
As emphasized by the provincial command itself, these interventions demonstrate the crucial importance of timely reporting by neighbors, relatives, or passersby: only the active collaboration of the community can break the wall of silence that too often surrounds domestic violence. Investigations are continuing to verify any further incidents and to evaluate broader precautionary measures to protect the woman.
