Naples – A veritable ambush unfolded on the night between Saturday and Sunday in Vico Lammatari, in the Sanità district. Those targeted by hitmen were Raffaele Pillo, 19, a minor criminal, and his friend Antonio Martusciello, 20, both from the neighborhood. Both were struck while crossing the street on a scooter.

A failed execution, a death mission that failed by mere centimeters. Now investigators from the Flying Squad are on the trail of those responsible, young men barely over the age of 18, like the victims. Footage from numerous public and private video surveillance cameras in the area is proving crucial to the investigation, allowing them to reconstruct the stages of the armed action.

The connection with the boss Antonio Genidoni, leader of the "Barbudos"

Three days after the attack, a disturbing detail has emerged: one of the two injured is related by family ties to Antonio Genidoni, the historic leader of the infamous "Barbudos" (beards) of the Sanità police station, currently serving a life sentence for the Fontanelle massacre. This detail could provide a clue to the episode and is now being closely examined by investigators.

Meanwhile, Raffaele Pillo remains hospitalized at the Ospedale del Mare in Ponticelli. He is awake and alert, and his condition is improving day by day. Doctors, while cautiously holding back a prognosis, are cautiously optimistic. The young man was initially transported to the Vecchio Pellegrini hospital, where he was stabilized before being transferred.

The Flying Squad is waiting for medical clearance to question him. Meanwhile, the other injured man, Antonio Martusciello, who was only grazed, has already been interviewed.

According to investigators' reconstruction, Pillo and Martusciello were riding their scooters along Vico Lammatari when they were approached by another motorcycle. Without hesitation, one of the passengers pulled out his gun and opened fire. Martusciello escaped with a minor wound, while Raffaele Pillo was struck in the back by a bullet, nearly losing his life.

An ambush that has brought tensions back to the Sanità district and has refocused attention on the fragile criminal situation, and on the clash between young Camorra gangs vying for control of the neighborhood's drug dealing hubs.
