Naples – A serious blood shortage is occurring at Cardarelli Hospital, one of Southern Italy's leading healthcare facilities. Dr. Daniela Graziano, acting head of the Immunohematology and Transfusion Medicine Unit, raised the alarm during a talk on the "Campania 24" program on Canale 9.

The hospital faces a constant and high need: chronic patients undergoing chemotherapy, thalassemia patients, scheduled surgeries, emergencies, and trauma from road accidents. Current donations, however, are completely insufficient to cover the needs.

"We're in a critical situation," Graziano explained in response to journalist Vincenzo Mele's questions. "The blood types most in short supply are Rh-negative and O-positive, which are less common in the population. A general increase in donations would naturally help rebalance these supplies as well."

To make it easier to donate, Cardarelli has activated a dedicated WhatsApp number (331.6702222) and a dedicated section on the company website. "Donating is extremely important," the doctor emphasizes.

Neapolitans are generous, but knowledge is often lacking. Each blood bag can save up to three people. We also offer free parking, proximity to the subway, free medical check-ups, and complete donor analysis. Who can donate? Women of childbearing age: maximum 2 donations per year.

Menopausal women and men: up to 4 donations per year (whole blood)
It is also possible to donate plasma and platelets, precious blood components that can save lives.

The final appeal is directed especially at young people: "Think about it," concludes Daniela Graziano. "There are young people like you who have been victims of accidents or are in serious conditions and need transfusions. Donating blood is not just an act of solidarity: it teaches healthy and responsible lifestyles. I beg you: come and donate." The emergency is real and cannot wait: a donation today can make the difference between life and death for many patients.
