Naples – Severe weather continues to ravage Campania. The regional Civil Protection Department has decided to extend the yellow weather alert for another 24 hours, extending it to the entire coastal strip and expanding the risk areas.
The wave of severe weather, already underway, will extend tomorrow to previously unaffected areas. Starting at midnight tonight, in addition to the areas already on alert (Campania Plain, Naples, Islands, Vesuvian Area; Upper Volturno and Matese; Sorrento-Amalfi Peninsula, Sarno Mountains and Picentini Mountains; Tusciano and Upper Sele), Zone 6 (Sele Plain and Upper Cilento) and Zone 8 (Lower Cilento) will also be added to the list.
The forecast calls for scattered to localized precipitation, in the form of showers or thunderstorms, which could be severe. The yellow alert is associated with a localized hydrogeological risk.
The main dangers associated with these intense phenomena are flooding, a sudden rise in river levels with possible overflows, and landslides or rockfalls favored by saturation of the ground.
The Civil Protection Department recommends that local governments activate or maintain their Municipal Operations Centers and adopt all necessary measures to prevent damage. Citizens are urged to exercise maximum caution and follow updates from the Regional Operations Room.
