Naples – The two young men injured last night in a shooting in the heart of the Sanità district were unarmed. This suggests that the shooter, seeing them approach on motorcycles, may have thought they were "enemies" ready to shoot.

Or perhaps the two injured were the victims of an ambush sparked by a clash between young gangs vying for control of the drug dealing hubs in the Sanità district. The investigations entrusted to the Flying Squad, led by Giovanni Leuci, will shed light on yet another bloody episode in Totò's beloved neighborhood.

The more seriously injured of the two young men is Raffaele Prillo, originally from the Miracoli area and resident in Giugliano, who was shot in the chest. He is only 19 years old. He is currently hospitalized in intensive care at Vecchio Pellegrini Hospital and is in serious condition.

Prillo was with a 20-year-old friend, Antonio Martusciello, also from the Sanità district, when the two were shot while walking along Via Sanità, near the square of the same name. Martusciello was wounded in the arm. After being initially admitted to Pellegrini Hospital, he was discharged around 6:00 a.m., but returned to the hospital a few hours later, around 10:00 a.m., due to severe pain. He remained under observation.

According to initial reconstructions, the two young men were approached in Vico Lammatari by two people on a scooter, who fired several shots in their direction. The shooting continued for about fifty meters: at the scene, forensic investigators found eight 7,65 caliber shell casings.

Investigators are trying to understand why the two boys ended up in the gunmen's sights. The possibility of a targeted attack has currently been ruled out. However, it has not been ruled out that the two were victims of mistaken identity or a misjudgment. Both, in fact, were not armed.

Prillo has a criminal record—without convictions—for receiving stolen goods and money laundering; Martusciello has only one charge for minor crimes. According to investigators, the two are not directly involved in structured criminal organizations.

The scene of the clash between the young fishing boats behind the ambush

The scene remains that of the youth crime scene in the Sanità district, now characterized by gangs composed almost exclusively of teenagers and young adults, traceable to the historic conflicts between the Sequino-Pirozzi-Savarese and Vastarella areas. A context marked by latent tensions and territorial rivalries.

A scene reminiscent of what happened in October 2024, when 15-year-old Emanuele Tufano was killed by friendly fire during a raid during a shootout between rival groups from the Mercato and Sanità districts. This incident triggered a spiral of violence that culminated in the killing of 20-year-old Emanuele Durante, identified as a scapegoat within the same group.

The prefect of Naples has intensified controls

The Prefecture of Naples also intervened in last night's incident. Prefect Michele di Bari ordered an immediate intensification of control and surveillance measures in the Rione Sanità area. The enhanced security measures include targeted prevention and surveillance services throughout the area to combat all forms of illegal activity.
The matter will also be examined further by the next Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety, in order to evaluate any further measures. The Prefecture has confirmed that it is closely monitoring the situation, reiterating the State's ongoing commitment to protecting the area.

It's a shame that these young people find themselves in such a dangerous situation. I don't understand how so many clashes between young people are possible, and we hope the investigations will clarify what really happened.
