In Naples, the City Council approved a €4 million investment to complete the enhancement of Castel dell'Ovo in preparation for the America's Cup. This project aims to make the monument more accessible and attractive, thus supporting the city's tourism development.

Naples – The restoration and enhancement of Castel dell'Ovo for the America's Cup continues. The City Council has approved the technical Planning Guidelines (PdF) for the project "Castel dell'Ovo for the America's Cup – Completion of the enhancement project," for a total investment of €4 million.

The resolution, proposed by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and Deputy Mayor with responsibility for Urban Planning, Laura Lieto, allows for the activation of new financial resources without impacting the municipality's current budget. The funds are derived from the recovery of outstanding loans from Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, identified through an accounting review of municipal offices, thus accelerating the implementation of the projects.

The funds will be allocated to projects deemed a priority for the full usability of the monumental complex: the completion of the Castle's technological systems, necessary for its modern redevelopment; the installation of monumental lighting for the Norman Ramp; and environmental mitigation and monitoring measures.

The new allocation adds to the funding already activated in recent years, including the 8 million euros from the Development and Cohesion Plan (FSC) allocated to the first redevelopment lots and the 2,05 million euros for the safety of the cliff and the Ramaglietto front.

"The restoration of Castel dell'Ovo is an absolute priority for our Administration," Mayor Gaetano Manfredi emphasized. "With this additional funding, we confirm our utmost commitment to restoring one of Naples' most iconic symbols to residents and tourists.

The redevelopment of the Castle is a strategic investment that will allow the city to host major world-class events, such as the America's Cup, strengthening the international role of the Mediterranean capital.

Deputy Mayor Laura Lieto agreed: “With the approval of the Planning Guidelines, we are taking a decisive step toward restoring Castel dell'Ovo to a renewed and fully functional state.

The enhancement of the complex is central to the broader urban transformation plan for the Lungomare. The completion of the systems and lighting of the Rampa Normanna will ensure modern and safe use of over 55 square meters of property.

The entire program of interventions is part of the 19-year Development Agreement signed with the Ministry of Culture, which sees the Municipality of Naples directly involved in raising the resources necessary to repurpose the site and integrate it into a broader process of tourism and cultural development for the city.
