A carefully planned operation, executed using paramilitary techniques, caused panic at dawn this morning along the A14 motorway.
Around 6:30 a.m., an armed commando attacked an armored van on the Chieti stretch of highway, precisely at kilometer 402 between the Ortona and Francavilla-Pescara Sud toll booths, transforming the road into an inferno of smoke and flames.
The dynamics of the blitz
The criminals acted extremely quickly to neutralize every escape route. To block traffic and isolate the armored vehicle, the criminal group set fire to at least two vehicles and strewn the roadway with three-pronged nails, simultaneously setting off several smoke bombs to cover their escape and obstruct visibility.
A heavy goods vehicle and three cars that were travelling on the affected stretch of road were also involved in the accident.

Rescue and injured
The medical report shows two people rescued by 118 personnel: a resident of Rome and a resident from the province of Chieti. Both reported symptoms of intoxication due to the thick smoke released by the fires and smoke bombs.
After receiving the necessary treatment on site, the two refused hospital transport. Fortunately, no gunshot wounds were reported, although the incident suggests the presence of a heavily armed group.
Investigations and traffic chaos
Officers from the Pescara Police Highway Operations Center (COA), the Fire Department, and traffic police patrols responded promptly to the scene of the attack. While investigators conducted surveys to determine the amount of the loot and identify the fugitives, traffic was brought to a standstill.
Autostrade per l'Italia reports increasing traffic jams and has closed the northbound stretch of highway. Currently, those traveling toward Pescara must exit at the Ortona toll booth and return to Pescara Sud after traveling along the regular road network.
