A night of terror in Giugliano in Campania, where the dreaded "Groundhog Gang" pulled off a spectacular robbery at the Banca di Credito Popolare branch on Via Aniello Palumbo.
The attack, which occurred around 3:20 a.m., woke the entire neighborhood with two explosions in quick succession. The criminals managed to uproot the ATM, making off with all the cash stored inside, the exact amount of which is still being determined.
The alarm was raised following desperate phone calls from numerous residents terrified by the roars. Local police officers responded immediately to the scene, finding themselves confronted with a devastating sight: the building's facade was severely damaged and the surrounding area littered with debris.
The Nail Trap
An even more disturbing element emerged from the investigation: the bandits had meticulously prepared the ground to ensure their escape. Before acting, they strewn the asphalt with hundreds of nails, turning the access roads into a veritable trap for law enforcement.
The strategy proved effective: several cars were left stranded with flat tires, slowing down the officers' intervention while the gang completed the heist and disappeared.
Investigators from the Flying Squad immediately began technical surveys at the crime scene, finding every possible trace left by the commando.

Police have already acquired video footage from surveillance cameras in the area. Investigators are confident that the images will provide crucial clues to identifying the gang members and reconstructing the details of the attack.
The modus operandi confirms the signature of the "Gang of the Groundhog," a criminal group already known to law enforcement for a series of similar heists carried out in recent months in the Campania region.
