Santa Marina – During the night between Thursday and Friday, in Policastro Bussentino, a hamlet of Santa Marina in the province of Salerno, unknown individuals carried out a daring attack on an ATM located along State Road 18.

Around 3:00 a.m., the criminals blew up the ATM using the so-called "groundhog technique," which involved inserting explosive material into the cash dispenser. After the explosion, the gang managed to enter the bank and steal the cash box, completing the heist in just a few minutes.

The bandits then fled without a trace. The loud bang from the explosion alerted some local residents, who immediately called the police. Carabinieri officers from the Sapri branch arrived on the scene to conduct surveys and launch an investigation.

Currently, both the quantification of the loot and the analysis of the images recorded by the video surveillance systems are underway, which are essential for tracing the perpetrators of the raid.

It's truly incredible that things like this happen in a quiet place like Policastro Bussentino. The groundhog technique is extremely dangerous and makes one wonder how law enforcement could improve safety in the area, considering so many people live there.
