Bacoli — The municipality has issued a formal notice to the Miseno military beach resort for €81.000 in unpaid taxes over the past three years, highlighting a tax equity issue affecting the entire community.

Bacoli — The Municipality of Bacoli has sent a formal notice to the operators of a military beach resort in the Miseno area, in the heart of the Phlegraean Fields. According to the administration, the resort has failed to pay municipal taxes for approximately three years, accumulating a debt of €81.000.

Mayor Josi Gerardo Della Ragione made the matter public, describing it as an "intolerable" situation and claiming that, before the formal notice, the municipality had attempted an amicable solution several times. "We repeatedly urged compliance with their tax obligations, held meetings, and wrote letters, but to no avail. Enough is enough: we've just issued a formal notice to pay us what they owe, without any buck-passing that offends not only the Bacolese community but the institutions," he stated.

The mayor also links the case to the issue of alleged "privileges" and the need, he says, for institutions to respect the rules, just like citizens and businesses. "Taxes are paid by shopkeepers, families pay them, and entrepreneurs pay them. Even those who have difficulty paying taxes pay taxes. Those who don't do so are damaging the country," he states.

The affected area is the seafront between Miseno and Miliscola, near Capo Miseno, one of the most famous spots on the Phlegraean coast. Della Ragione also endorses the administration's policy on public beach access: "We are now returning these areas to the public as free beaches." The reference is to over
25.000 square meters of beach that, according to the mayor, should once again be "no longer a property for a few but for everyone."

The City Council's request remains the same: payment of the due amount and compliance with the regulations. "We only want this: for everyone to respect the laws," the mayor concludes.

It's incredible how a military base can accumulate so much debt. I hope the situation is resolved soon, but I don't understand why there are tax equity issues in this situation.
