Naples – An afternoon of fear and disruption in the Bagnoli neighborhood. A significant water main leak on Via Silio Italico caused the access road to number 33 to collapse, affecting the public sidewalk and causing the partial collapse of a boundary wall between two private properties.

The emergency, which began on the afternoon of Sunday, January 4th, required the precautionary evacuation of three families. The residents, unable to return to their apartments for safety reasons, will spend the night away from home pending the technical inspections scheduled for tomorrow morning.

Safety and traffic plan

ABC technicians responded promptly to the scene, interrupting the water supply to stem the landslide, along with teams from the Civil Protection Department, the Fire Brigade, and personnel from Napoli Servizi.

To ensure the safety of citizens, the area was immediately cordoned off:

The road between number 26 Via Silio Italico and the intersection with Via Eurialo has been completely closed.

Pedestrian ban: passage is permitted exclusively on the sidewalk opposite the one affected by the collapse.

24-hour surveillance: a local police patrol will ensure constant surveillance of the area throughout the night.

System checks and warnings

The critical situation doesn't just affect the water network. Italgas Reti and E-distribuzione have been alerted and asked to conduct urgent checks on the integrity of the gas and electricity systems in the affected area.

Additionally, an immediate warning has been issued to the owners and managers of the two affected buildings. The order requires the immediate safety of the damaged load-bearing structures, foundations, and boundary walls.

The next steps
The area will remain under partial seizure and closed to traffic until technical certifications certifying the resolution of all critical issues are submitted. The construction site for the final repairs and restoration of the road surface will begin early tomorrow morning, Monday, January 5th.
