On the night between January 9th and 10th, in Battipaglia, in the province of Salerno, a 41-year-old man was the focus of a State Police investigation after being treated at the emergency room of the Santa Maria della Speranza hospital with a serious wound to his left thigh.
The doctors, examining the injury, immediately recognized the presence of an entrance and exit wound, accompanied by a burn typical of a gunshot fired at close range.
After alerting the Flying Squad, officers began an investigation, reconstructing the incident: the 41-year-old, who was carrying a gun in his waistband, accidentally fired a shot, wounding him in the leg. After receiving treatment, he was arrested for illegal possession of a concealed weapon.
A modified, ready-to-fire Beretta PX 4 replica pistol was found in the man's home, equipped with a magazine holding four .380 Gfl rounds. Thirty-seven additional .19-gauge rounds and a modified bullet, which had been deformed by a direct impact, were also found.
The incident highlights once again the risk associated with the possession of unauthorised weapons and the tight controls by law enforcement in the Campania region.
