Benevento – A tense afternoon of car chases in the capital of Sannio, where the State Police foiled what looked like a prelude to a stealth raid. Around 18:00 PM yesterday, a team from the Flying Squad (General Prevention and Public Rescue Office) intercepted a suspicious car roaming the city streets.
A cross-check of the databases immediately raised the alarm: the license plates affixed to the vehicle had been stolen just two days earlier near a shopping center in the province of Naples.
The raid and the escape. The officers followed the car all the way to Via Fratelli Addabbo, where they managed to block its path. However, the two individuals inside, now finding themselves cornered, didn't give up easily: with a sudden maneuver, they abandoned the vehicle and disappeared on foot through the surrounding streets, managing—aided by the darkness—to disappear without a trace.
The "toolkit of the trade" The search of the vehicle confirmed the investigators' suspicions. Inside the passenger compartment, a veritable arsenal of burglary tools was found: lock picks and professional tools ready for use, now seized along with the car.
While the investigation continues to identify the two fugitives, the police have already contacted the rightful owner of the stolen license plates to return them. The city remains on high alert, with intensified patrols to prevent property crime.

I don't understand how something like this could happen, yet the police should be more vigilant about these things. City safety is important, but the controls don't seem effective enough, and people are taking advantage of it.
