Benevento – A bloody and violent Sunday morning shook the heart of the Libertà district. What seemed like yet another family dispute escalated into a de facto attempted murder, leaving a 68-year-old man struggling for life in a hospital bed.
Carabinieri officers from the local command arrested a 37-year-old local man, charged with grievous bodily harm. The alarm was raised following a report of a violent altercation in the neighborhood; however, by the time officers arrived, the victim had already been rushed to the San Pio emergency room.
The dynamics of the beating
According to investigators' reconstruction, the attacker attacked the elderly man with unprecedented ferocity, repeatedly kicking and punching him in the head. This brutal beating caused deep head trauma. During the night, the 68-year-old underwent delicate neurosurgery, and his prognosis remains guarded.
The investigations and the motive
The Carabinieri officers' work was lightning-fast. Thanks to a rapid investigation in the area, the 37-year-old was located shortly after the attack, still within the neighborhood. His own clothing appears to have incriminated him: at the time of his arrest, the man was still wearing blood-soaked clothing, which was immediately seized for forensic analysis.
The violence is thought to be the result of long-standing grudges and unresolved conflicts related to a romantic relationship within the family. The arrested man, by order of the judicial authorities, has been placed under house arrest, pending the outcome of justice and the victim's condition, hopefully, improving.

This article is truly shocking. I don't understand how something like this could happen in a normal neighborhood. Violence is never the solution. I hope the man recovers soon and that justice is served.
