Naples – He decided to take advantage of a moment of distraction, believing that disappearing into the crowd in Piazza Garibaldi would guarantee him impunity. However, he hadn't counted on the "smart" technology contained in the recently stolen backpack. A 30-year-old man of Moroccan origin was arrested yesterday afternoon by officers at the Vicaria-Mercato Police Station on charges of theft and resisting arrest.

The robbery on Via Depretis It all started on Via Agostino Depretis. The victim, busy unloading some material from a van, suddenly noticed a stranger quickly walking away with his backpack, which he had just taken from the unattended vehicle. Instead of giving up, the owner reacted quickly: remembering that the backpack contained headphones with geolocation enabled, he opened the app on his smartphone, tracking the perpetrator's movements in real time.

The technological pursuit The report immediately reached the Operations Room, which diverted the patrol cars to Corso Umberto I, at the corner of Piazza Garibaldi. There, the officers met with the victim, who provided both a description of the thief and the updated GPS coordinates of the device.

The arrest and detention: The manhunt concluded on Via Raffaele Conforti. Officers located the thirty-year-old attempting a final, desperate escape. After a brief struggle—described by law enforcement as "not without difficulty"—the man was apprehended and handcuffed.

The stolen goods, recovered in full thanks to the digital signal, were returned to their rightful owner, while the thirty-year-old was held in a holding cell awaiting trial.
