Naples – A raid by prison investigators ended the brief fugitive status of an escaped inmate on semi-liberty. LV, 41, was arrested by officers from the Campania regional Central Investigative Unit (NIC) at a home in Casandrino, near Naples, where he had been hiding.
The man, sentenced to 11 years, 1 month, and 10 days in prison for a serious criminal record that includes drug dealing, robbery, extortion, and violation of weapons laws, was already close to release from prison, having been placed on semi-liberty to serve the remainder of his sentence.
However, on January 4th, taking advantage of the relief measure, he never returned to the Secondigliano Penitentiary Center in Naples, beginning his fugitive status.
The investigation, coordinated by the judiciary, focused on the metropolitan area of Naples. NIC officers, after gathering investigative evidence, finally located the fugitive in Casandrino. During the operation, the man was arrested and, following the usual formalities, was returned to the judicial authorities to answer for the crime of escape and complete his original sentence.
The operation confirms the monitoring and rapid response efforts of the Central Investigative Unit of the Penitentiary Police on alternative measure inmates who violate their obligations.

Reading the article, I wondered how an escaped prisoner could hide for so long. It's important that law enforcement continue to work to prevent similar situations in the future, especially in a sensitive context like prison.
