Naples – The investigation stemmed from a complaint filed by a 66-year-old resident of Castel Goffredo, who over the past two years had received numerous reminders for alleged unpaid electricity and gas bills. These requests came from various companies with which, according to reports, the man had never signed a contract.
Documents and phone calls: the first findings
The Carabinieri verified that the victim had not activated any account, despite the companies holding a copy of his identity document and a telephone recording linked to the alleged contractual agreement.
An analysis of the contacts between the utility company and the number listed as the account holder revealed anomalies: the telephone number associated with the contract did not match that of the 66-year-old, and furthermore, the recorded voice could not be traced back to the victim.
The mechanism: contracts drawn up to obtain commissions
According to the investigation, several individuals involved in the sales/service activation activities compiled and sent contracts in the 66-year-old's name, providing false personal information. This resulted in the activation of new supplies and the accrual of commissions on the transactions.
Who are the accused and the alleged crimes?
At the end of the investigations, the Carabinieri reported five people: a 46-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman from Palermo, a 58-year-old man and a 50-year-old man from Casoria (Naples), and a 50-year-old man from Terni.
The indictment charges them with impersonation, unlawful processing of personal data, and fraud.
