Irpinia is under attack again. During the night between Friday and Saturday, the "Marmotta" gang struck again, choosing Calitri as the new target of an offensive that shows no signs of abating. A swift and devastating operation, identical in timing and method to the raid carried out just forty-eight hours earlier in Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi.
The explosion occurred shortly after 4:00 a.m. in Piazza Salvatore Scoca. The criminals placed a homemade explosive charge inside the ATM located near the post office. The blast tore through the structure, waking residents and leaving debris and visible signs of the assault on the pavement. Within moments, the money was withdrawn and the gang fled before law enforcement arrived.
Carabinieri from the local company and firefighters responded to the scene, working to secure the severely damaged area. The total amount lost is still being quantified, but initial estimates suggest it may be significant.
The incident has forcefully rekindled the security alarm in Alta Irpinia. Calitri is no stranger to this type of attack: last June, a similar attack netted criminals approximately €30. Investigators are now combing through surveillance footage to reconstruct the perpetrators' movements and determine whether the close-quarters raids are being carried out by the same criminal gang that is putting the entire province under pressure.
