Naples – A breakthrough has been reached in the investigation into the murder of Ottavio Colalongo, 48, killed on December 17, 2025, in Scisciano, near Naples. Carabinieri officers from the Castello di Cisterna unit have executed an arrest warrant issued by the Naples Anti-Mafia District Directorate against eight individuals.
The suspects are charged with murder aggravated by mafia methods and purposes. The order was executed between the provinces of Naples and Avellino, as part of the investigation coordinated by the Anti-Mafia Directorate; the case is being handled by Prosecutor Henry John Woodcock.
According to the investigative reconstruction, the crime was planned and carried out with the input of the leaders of a Camorra clan linked to the Luongo-Covone-Aloia group, historically opposed to the Filippini clan in the dispute over the management of criminal activities in the territories of San Vitaliano, Marigliano and Scisciano.
The investigations also revealed a system of alliances between groups active in the northern area of the province of Naples—with references to Afragola and Acerra—and contacts that also extended into part of the province of Avellino.
Those arrested are Daniele Augusto, Bernardo Cava, Luca and Matteo Covone, Christian Della Valle, Ciro Guardasole, Eduardo Polverino and Giovanni Tarantino.
The killers were caught live on camera
According to the Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office's reconstruction, the attack occurred while Colalongo was riding his scooter. A large-engine motorcycle with two passengers aboard pulled up alongside him, forcing him to fall, and then opened fire. Investigators describe a particularly violent execution, with shots fired at vital areas and further shots after the victim was already on the ground.
According to investigators, the action was filmed by cameras in the area, which were acquired as part of the investigation.

What happened in Scisciano is a very serious matter. It's unclear how murders like this can still happen in such a densely populated area. I hope the authorities do their job well and find the truth.
