The forecast indicates showers or thunderstorms that could hit the coastal area and southern inland areas with particular intensity.

Risk areas and forecasts

The Functional Center's monitoring highlighted a hydrogeological criticality located primarily in four areas of the region. The areas affected by the warning are:

Zone 3: Sorrento-Amalfi Peninsula, Sarno Mountains and Picentini Mountains.

Zone 5: Tusciano and Alto Sele.

Zone 6: Sele Plain and Upper Cilento.

Zone 8: Lower Cilento.

Sudden thunderstorms are expected in these areas, which could cause rising water levels and surface runoff, resulting in debris sliding onto roadways.

Monitoring and security

In addition to the risk of flooding, the Civil Protection Department warns of possible flooding of basements and ground-floor areas. Special attention is being paid to maintaining public green spaces, due to possible wind gusts associated with storms, and to the risk of falling rocks or landslides in the most vulnerable areas.

Local authorities in the affected areas have been advised to activate their Municipal Operations Centers (COCs) to monitor the evolution of the phenomena in their area. Authorities recommend closely monitoring communications from the Regional Operations Center and adopting all preventive measures outlined in municipal civil protection plans to mitigate risks to the population.

Honestly, I think the weather warning is a bit exaggerated, but you never know. We must be cautious, especially in these high-risk areas. I hope everyone is following the Civil Protection Department's safety guidelines.
