Naples – Another morning of concern in the Phlegraean Fields. Starting at 9:03 a.m. today, Wednesday, January 14, 2026, the Vesuvius Observatory reported the start of a new seismic swarm affecting the Phlegraean Fields area, with its epicenter located in the Pozzuoli area.
Seismic activity recorded two major events in close proximity: at 9:04 a.m.: An initial shock of magnitude 2.2. This was followed by a second, more intense event of magnitude 2.5 on the Richter scale.
The tremors, although moderate, were clearly felt by the local population and in some neighborhoods in western Naples, fueling the usual climate of alarm linked to the phenomenon of bradyseism.
The authorities' response The Pozzuoli municipal administration promptly responded with a statement released via social media to reassure residents and provide updates.
"The Municipal Administration, together with the Pozzuoli Civil Protection Department, is closely monitoring the evolution of the current swarm," the statement reads.
Authorities remain in constant contact with the Vesuvius Observatory to monitor the area's geophysical parameters. No damage to people or property has been reported so far, but maximum surveillance remains in place until the event is over.
