The initial report from New Year's Eve comes from police stations in the five provinces of Campania: 73 minor injuries at the end of the New Year's celebrations. Most of the victims suffered injuries from illegal or poorly managed fireworks.
Naples is the epicenter of the emergency
The peak was recorded in Naples and its province, with 57 injuries, including 11 minors—six in the city alone. Forty people have already been discharged from hospital, but the involvement of young people is raising concerns among law enforcement.
Other cases in the provinces
CasertaEight people were injured, all adults. The most seriously injured person is hospitalized with a guarded prognosis and risks amputation.
Salerno: 5 people treated, two of them in serious condition in Eboli – one will lose some fingers.
Avellino: 3 minor injuries.
Benevento: No cases reported.
Shooting in Giugliano: Not fire, but bullets
An isolated but violent incident in Giugliano (Naples): a 54-year-old man was wounded in the abdomen and thigh by gunshots, sparked by an argument in a restaurant that then continued outside. His life is not in danger; the Carabinieri are investigating.
Safety respected, two burning cars saved
There were no public order concerns: the celebrations in the squares proceeded peacefully. Only in Santa Maria Capua Vetere did two cars catch fire, likely caused by firecrackers or fireworks, but no injuries were reported.
Arrests in Salerno against the black market
In Salerno, law enforcement arrested four people for selling illegal fireworks, nipping the illegal trade in fireworks in the bud.

It's a shame that so many people have been injured by fireworks, especially minors who should be better protected. We hope the situation improves and that people are more responsible.
