Bologna – A 34-year-old train conductor, a Trenitalia employee, was found lying on the ground in a pool of blood in the employee parking lot on the west side of Bologna station. He was stabbed to death this evening, Monday, January 5th.
The attack is believed to have occurred around 19:00 PM, a time when many train workers finish their shifts and head to their cars. The young man was struck by multiple stab wounds, all concentrated in his abdomen, deep and fatal wounds that left him with no chance of survival.
The railway police, the mobile squad, the forensic science team, and the medical examiner responded to the scene. The crime scene was immediately secured. Investigators are reviewing the numerous security camera footage that monitors both the internal area of the reserved parking lot and the external access roads to the West Forecourt.
At the moment there are no eyewitnesses to the attack, but the images could provide decisive elements: both the arrival of the victim and any suspicious movements in the minutes before and immediately after the crime.
The Bologna Prosecutor's Office has opened a case of voluntary homicide. Investigators are working on two main hypotheses, both currently open: a predatory attack (an attempted robbery that ended in tragedy);
a targeted ambush, with a personal motive or linked to previous issues
The victim, originally from the province of Bologna according to initial reports, was known in the railway industry as a calm and professional individual. He had no significant criminal record.
The news caused deep dismay among Trenitalia colleagues and all the station staff, one of Italy's main rail hubs. Many train workers, coming off their evening shifts, stopped in shock to look at the red and white tape marking the parking area.
The investigation continues at a rapid pace. The autopsy results and analysis of the acquired video footage, which covers a crucial period of time, will be crucial in the coming hours. Bologna station, already the scene of other tragedies in recent years, finds itself once again at the center of a bloody incident that casts a heavy shadow on the safety of train personnel and the ordinary flow of life in one of the city's busiest areas.
