Casal di Principe – A head-on collision between two cars turned tragic last night, January 25th, on Via Vaticale, the road connecting Casal di Principe to Villa di Briano. Despite immediate medical attention, Domenico Catapano, a 50-year-old from Grazzanise, died.
The extremely violent accident involved a Ford Fiesta, driven by Catapano, and a Volkswagen Golf, driven by Amerigo Nobile, 27, also a resident of Grazzanise. Emergency medical services and Carabinieri officers from the Casal di Principe Company responded to the scene.
Catapano, who was seriously injured in the crash, was immediately in critical condition. Rushed to the hospital, the 50-year-old died shortly after arriving at the emergency room due to his severe injuries.
The young driver of the Golf, Amerigo Nobile, also suffered significant injuries, including a fractured pelvis. He was transported with a yellow code for treatment and is currently not considered critical.
The precise circumstances of the accident are now the focus of the Carabinieri investigation, as they conduct their usual surveys and reconstruct the events. They will attempt to determine the cause of the collision, including through witness testimony and traffic inspections. Via Vaticale has been partially closed to traffic to allow law enforcement to carry out their work and restore safety.
The community of Grazzanise, and in particular the two families involved, are mourning today the loss of a man and the serious tragedy that has struck another young fellow citizen.
