In both cases, the interventions required the collaboration of the veterinary services of the Local Health Authority and led to the seizure of the animals and the identification of those responsible.

First episode: Ailano, two dead dogs in a makeshift shack

In the municipality of Ailano (Caserta), a patrol from the San Gregorio Matese Forestry Unit responded to a report from alarmed residents. The officers discovered a makeshift shack, constructed from scrap materials and dangerous due to the presence of iron spikes, where two deceased dogs lay next to two others that were still alive.

The carcasses, in an advanced state of decomposition and showing clear signs of cannibalism, were seized and handed over to the Portici Zooprophylactic Institute for analysis to determine the cause of death. The facility, deprived of food, water, and any hygienic conditions, was declared unfit for use.

In the courtyard behind the apartment building, officers found three other dogs clearly malnourished and suffering. Among them was a female tethered to a chain with a 45-day-old puppy, both deprived of basic care. The animals, all without microchips, were identified and placed under medical seizure, then entrusted to a specialized facility affiliated with the Campania Region.

The owner was reported for animal cruelty and killing, crimes under the penal code.

Second episode: Alife, an aggressive Rottweiler threatens an elderly man

The second rescue operation took place in Alife (Caserta), in the agricultural area of "Via Vado Largo." The Alife Carabinieri Forestry Unit, with the support of the Equine and Stray Animals Veterinary Unit of the Caserta Local Health Authority and personnel specialized in teleanesthesia, captured a large Rottweiler or crossbreed.

The animal, extremely aggressive toward people, was dangerously guarding the home of an elderly man who lived alone in a remote house in the countryside. Without an identification microchip, the dog was sedated remotely and transported to the appropriate animal shelter.

I can't understand how it could get this far. We need more control and stricter laws for those who mistreat animals. Living beings have rights, even if they're just dogs.

These episodes are certainly very sad and make us think about how many people don't know how to care for animals. More education on this topic is needed to prevent future abuse.

The situations surrounding abandoned dogs are truly alarming. I hope the authorities take these issues more seriously. Animals don't deserve to be treated this way; it's a real scandal.
