Following the hospitalization of a student with meningitis, the Angiulli Comprehensive School in Naples will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 14, to allow for extraordinary disinfection and sanitization of the school premises.
The announcement was made by the Municipality of Naples, which is constantly monitoring the situation in close collaboration with the Local Health Authority Napoli 1 Centro and school administration. The goal is to ensure the health of students, staff, and families, avoiding alarmism but without compromising vigilance.
The Local Health Authority's Department of Collective Prevention has already provided specific instructions on the additional measures to be adopted, including both daily cleaning procedures and health surveillance of the entire school community, along with adequate information on the disease and the appropriate behaviors.
On the same day, reassurance also came from the Colli Hospital, which owns the Cotugno Hospital, where three other people, aged between 22 and 25, are being treated for Neisseria meningitidis. According to health workers, the lack of a temporal correlation between the different cases rules out the existence of a direct chain of infection.
The reported incidence, the hospital explains, is within seasonal expectations and is also compatible with the sharp drop in temperatures in the last few hours. Furthermore, the strains analyzed do not appear to be linked to a single outbreak. This is a measure of caution, therefore, but also a clear message to the public: the situation is under control.
