Casoria - The rescue and technical assessment operation continues unabated following the collapse of a portion of a building at Via Cavour 60, which occurred yesterday in Casoria. The Rescue Coordination Center (COC), activated by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, at the request of Mayor Raffaele Bene, held an operational meeting this morning to update the situation, which has become more complex due to new infrastructure problems.

The meeting was attended by the regional councilor for Civil Protection, Fiorella Zabatta, and director general Italo Giulivo, along with the heads of the Fire Department, the Police Force, and the ASL Napoli 2 Nord. Attention is focused on a serious problem that emerged after the collapse: significant flooding affecting the local sewer system. The water company and municipal technicians are working to identify the exact source.

The top priority, as emphasized by the operators, is ensuring the safety of the approximately 90 people evacuated as a precaution from adjacent buildings, who are still unable to return to their homes. Most of them have been temporarily accommodated in hotels. The COC, the local health authority, and regional volunteers are providing assistance, with dedicated healthcare services for the affected families.

The area remains closed and monitored by the police to prevent dangerous access and looting. Meanwhile, municipal technicians and the fire department will continue inspections over the next few hours to assess the stability of the buildings.

Councilor Zabatta praised the residents of Casoria, who independently supported the distribution of essential goods at the collection point set up by the Campania Region. The situation remains under constant monitoring.

This is a difficult time for Casoria, and I'm deeply sorry for the people who had to leave their homes. We hope that rescue efforts can quickly resolve the flooding and that everyone can return home safely.
