Castellammare di Stabia – The Naples District Anti-Mafia Office has opened an investigation into Gennaro Oscurato, a former city councilor in Castellammare di Stabia who resigned in recent weeks, for alleged involvement in mafia conspiracy.

The former member of the majority party supporting Mayor Luigi Vicinanza had already found himself at the center of political debate, even beyond the city limits, after a wiretapped phone call was released in which he spoke with the alleged treasurer of the D'Alessandro clan.

According to leaks from judicial sources, Oscurato will be questioned in the next few days by the deputy prosecutor of the Naples DDA, Giuseppe Cimmarotta, who is about to take up the post of deputy prosecutor in Nola.

The former councilor's defense has been entrusted to lawyer Mario D'Apuzzo, currently an opposition city councilor and center-right mayoral candidate in the 2024 local elections, in which he challenged the current mayor Vicinanza.

The investigation is part of the broader investigation by the DDA in the Castellammare di Stabia area and into the relationship between organized crime and local politics.
