The Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, acting on behalf of the Minister of the Interior, has appointed a commission of inquiry to obtain access to documents at the Municipality of Castellammare di Stabia.
The body will be responsible for verifying the existence of any attempts at infiltration and/or connections by organized crime within the Stabia municipal administration.
The inspection will have an initial duration of three months, with the possibility of an extension for an additional three months, as required by anti-mafia legislation. During this period, the commission will be able to acquire documents, analyze administrative procedures, contracts, assignments, and relationships between the institution and external parties.
The context: months of tension and investigations
The Interior Ministry's decision doesn't come suddenly. Castellammare di Stabia has been through a complex few months, marked by a succession of judicial developments that have gradually cast a spotlight on administrative action and the relationship between local politics and the region.
Two prominent figures in the council majority have come under scrutiny, implicated in a judicial investigation that has called into question the overall stability of the political structure that supports Mayor Luigi Vicinanza, a representative of the center-left.
Majority councilors under investigation
According to investigative documents, the investigation concerned alleged connections between political and administrative activities and external interests, with in-depth investigations into procedures, personal relationships, and possible channels of influence within the municipal body. The allegations, all still under judicial review, have led to judicial measures and a strong political upheaval within the council chamber.
The position of the two councilors—at the time an integral part of the majority—opened a deep rift, fueling questions about the administration's ability to exercise full control, impervious to pressure and influence.
The impact on the Vicinity administration
Mayor Luigi Vicinanza faced a delicate phase, marked by political tensions, distancing, requests for clarification, and an inevitable backlash to the institution's image.
Despite the absence of direct measures against the mayor, the investigation has placed the administration under scrutiny, with implications for public trust and the stability of the majority.
In this context, the accession of the prefectural commission represents a highly significant institutional step, transcending individual judicial proceedings to question the overall functioning of the municipal machine.
What will the access commission do?
The commission, composed of state officials with administrative and investigative powers, will be responsible for:
examine documents and resolutions;
verify tender procedures, contracts and assignments;
analyze any anomalies or suspicious recurrences;
assess the presence of direct or indirect influences attributable to organised crime.
At the end of the work, the final report will be sent to the Prefect and then to the Ministry of the Interior, which will be able to make the resulting decisions.
A crucial passage for the city
The inspection is not equivalent to dissolution, but it represents the most delicate prerequisite. It is both an act of assurance and a warning signal, placing Castellammare di Stabia in a phase of heightened institutional oversight.
For the city, already marked by a complex history and a difficult relationship with local criminal dynamics, a season of waiting and investigation now begins. The outcome of the commission's work will reveal whether the shadows revealed by the judicial investigations will remain confined to individual responsibilities or will have more deeply affected the heart of the municipal administration.

In Torre Annunziata, the local port is a priority for the Campania Regional Council.
