A piece of Naples in London is closing forever. The "Da Maria" restaurant, an icon for Napoli fans and a gathering place for the Neapolitan community, is closing its doors after decades of celebrations, blue jerseys, and traditional flavors.

The Neapolitan heart of London closes its doors

A piece of Naples, or rather, the Neapolitan heart of London, is dying. "Da Maria," a Notting Hill restaurant and pizzeria that over the years has become a symbol of London's Azzurri fans, will close permanently on January 28th.

The owner himself announced it this morning on social media: "After so many wonderful years, we have decided to permanently close Da Maria at the end of this month. Thank you for your loyalty, your love, and for being part of our journey. We will always carry you in our hearts."

The history of an institution

Originally opened in the 80s, the restaurant, which seats just twenty, has in recent years become a veritable "Curva B" in the heart of London. Every time Napoli plays, the restaurant fills to capacity: fans in blue jerseys, scarves, celebrations, and videos flooding social media during victories, especially in the last two Scudetti, when the cheers spilled out onto the streets at the final whistle.

A battle won, but the end has come

In 2017, "Da Maria" risked closure due to a request to expand a nearby cinema, but the City of London rejected the project, defending a slice of pure Italian style. At the time, Luciano Ruocco, son of founders Maria and Pasquale, stated: "The City has chosen not to approve the project to protect what 'Da Maria' has represented for the city. But we will continue to fight, as we have done until now, with the support of those who have helped us."

Farewell and memory

“Da Maria” thus remains an icon, not only for Neapolitans, but for anyone who wanted to taste the flavors of Neapolitan tradition in London.
