San Vitaliano – The municipal cemetery has remained closed since October 4, 2025, while renovation work on the burial niches—at the center of a corruption investigation that led to the former mayor's imprisonment—has been stalled for months. A citizen reported the situation to Congressman Borrelli, who is now requesting the Prefecture's intervention and will submit a parliamentary question.

The paralysis has its roots in the investigation by the Nola Prosecutor's Office in May 2025, when a raid led to the arrest of the then-mayor and several officials. Among the most serious charges were death threats against a municipal engineer to manipulate the €50 contract for cemetery niches.

The official's courageous refusal stopped the corruption, but the fall of the administration halted construction work, leaving the cemetery in a state of hygienic and structural abandonment.

"The situation is the same as it was on January 13, 2026, and in the previous months of 2025," wrote a resident in a report to Francesco Emilio Borrelli (Green-Left Alliance). "The cemetery is not yet open to the public. It has been closed since October 4, 2025, for maintenance and sanitation, but as of today, January 27, 2026, the work has not been carried out. We have been denied the opportunity to visit our loved ones. The City Council has only met with silence."

"It is unacceptable that citizens pay the price, both personally and through the lives of their deceased relatives, for the consequences of an administrative system subject to precautionary measures for corruption," Borrelli declared.

Despite superficial reassurances, videos and testimonies reveal complete inaction. If the Municipality is unable to initiate urgent maintenance, the Prefecture must intervene. I will submit a request to understand how the funds were managed and why, months after the judicial earthquake, the community is still suffering from this degradation.

It's truly sad to see how the situation at the municipal cemetery hasn't been resolved yet. Citizens deserve to be able to visit their loved ones without having to deal with such a difficult situation. We hope the authorities act soon.
