Rome – The Rome Court of Appeal, Fourth Criminal Section, has fully acquitted Judge Alberto Capuano, charged with six counts of corruption in judicial proceedings. The same decision was handed down to the other defendants, including businessman Antonio Di Dio, represented by lawyers Marco Campora and Nello Cozzolino.
The ruling concludes a complex and lengthy legal case that began in 2019, when Capuano, then a judge at the Naples Tribunal serving in the Ischia branch, was arrested and subsequently convicted in the first and second instance.
An outcome overturned by the Court of Cassation, which, accepting the arguments of defense attorneys Alfonso Furgiuele and Alfredo Sorge, annulled the previous convictions and ordered the case to be referred to a different section of the Rome Court of Appeal.
In the new adjourned trial, the judges have now pronounced a full acquittal, recognizing the groundlessness of the charges. Along with Capuano, Valentino Cassini and Giuseppe Liccardo, involved in the same proceedings, were also acquitted.
The magistrate's lawyers expressed satisfaction with the final outcome of the trial. "At the end of a painful and troubled process," Furgiuele and Sorge stated, "Judge Capuano's innocence has finally been recognized." The lawyers for entrepreneur Di Dio echoed this sentiment, describing it as a "tormented and unfair legal process" that concluded with the full acquittal of their clients.

The Rome Court of Appeal's decision on Capuano is thought-provoking. It's strange that after so much confusion, everything is now in order. I wonder if this is truly fair or not.
