Six Italians are still missing and at least 13 are hospitalized following the fire and subsequent explosion that devastated the “Le Constellation” club in Crans-Montana, in the canton of Valais, on New Year's Eve.
Swiss authorities are working among the rubble and areas that are still difficult to reach, while the Farnesina has activated assistance channels for family members and is following the identification operations.
In Crans-Montana, a renowned Swiss tourist destination, the New Year's Eve tragedy continues to cast its shadow over Italy: the number of Italians still unaccounted for remains high, and the list is being continuously reviewed by authorities and the Crisis Unit.
According to the reconstructions that have emerged so far, a fire broke out inside the "Le Constellation" bar and, in rapid succession, explosions occurred, transforming the party into an inferno of smoke and flames. The causes remain under investigation by investigators, but the testimonies collected and the initial technical evidence point to a trigger linked to candles used on champagne bottles and the rapid involvement of wooden elements present in the venue.
The venue, some regulars say, was a well-known meeting place, "frequented by many Italians," partly because it stayed open late and offered space suitable for large groups. On the medical front, several injured people have been distributed to multiple hospitals (in Sion, Lausanne, and Zurich), while the search and identification of the missing continues.
