Casoria – A breakthrough has been reached in the investigation into the collapse of the building on Via Cavour, which occurred on the night of Friday, January 23. The North Naples Public Prosecutor's Office has officially opened an investigation and ordered the precautionary seizure of the entire area.

The magistrates' goal is to shed full light on the causes of the collapse, starting with the acquisition of technical documents and reports filed with the Casoria Municipality offices.

The displaced persons emergency

The human toll is heavy: 90 people have been left homeless. Of these, 60 have found temporary accommodation in hotels, while the remaining 30 have been taken in by relatives.

The situation remains critical: the ASL Napoli 2 Nord has provided continuous medical care, but the unstable conditions in the area are still preventing families from returning, even for a few minutes, to retrieve their belongings. To prevent looting, police are patrolling the area 24/7.

The underground knot

Yesterday morning, the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, presided over the Rescue Coordination Center, attended by Mayor Raffaele Bene and the heads of the Civil Protection Department. The "number one suspect" remains the subsoil: technicians and firefighters are monitoring a significant water infiltration that may have compromised the foundations. Water services teams and 85 workers, including volunteers and SMA Campania staff, are working on site.

Regional Councilor Fiorella Zabatta announced financial support measures for the Municipality and the construction of a tent structure for the distribution of essential goods. "We will guarantee assistance and water supplies for as long as necessary," she stated.

However, the relief effort is accompanied by discontent. Controversy is erupting on social media and in the streets of Casoria: several residents claim to have reported suspicious noises and cracks months ago. It will now be up to the magistrates to determine whether those cries of alarm went unheeded and whether the disaster could have been avoided.
