Nightclubs across Italy hold a minute's silence: the initiative launched in Naples for the victims of the Crans-Montana disaster.

On Saturday, January 10th, at 1:00 a.m., the consoles will be turned off for 60 seconds. This idea was conceived by the Cannavale brothers, with the support of Silb-Fipe Campania. Borrelli: "A simple gesture but with enormous symbolic value. We need more security and controls."

Naples – A minute of silence in all Italian nightclubs to remember the young victims of the Crans-Montana massacre. This initiative, conceived by Alessandro and Andrea Cannavale, former Neapolitan PR representatives, and supported by Silb-Fipe Campania, chaired by Alessandro Esposito, will take place: on the night between Saturday, January 10th and Sunday, January 11th, at 1:00 a.m., all consoles will be turned off simultaneously for 60 seconds.

"The young lives lost in Crans-Montana must not and cannot be forgotten. It is essential to transform similar tragedies into moments of collective awareness so that they never happen again," said Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green-Left Alliance. For the MP, the symbolic closure of nightclubs "is a simple gesture but of enormous value" because it allows people to reflect, "even in places of entertainment," on the gravity of what happened.

Borrelli also emphasizes the need for prevention: "I hope it encourages those working in the sector to avoid dangerous situations and for institutions to implement more stringent controls. It's possible to reconcile nightlife with fun and safety; you just have to want it."

Alessandro Cannavale explained the reasons for the initiative: "Having been involved in nightclubs for many years, as a PR and event organizer alongside my brother Andrea, we were deeply affected by the tragedy. We thought it was right and proper for all the clubs to shut down for a minute to make young people reflect on what happened." A gesture, he added, "of respect and remembrance for the victims," but also "a strong message: young people have the right to spend their evenings in clubs in complete safety."

For the president of Silb-Fipe Campania, Alessandro Esposito, the local communities' participation "is intended as a sign of closeness and respect for the victims and their families, who are experiencing immense pain at this terrible time."

The initiative to stop the consoles for a minute seems like a good idea to me, but it's important that it doesn't remain just a symbolic gesture, but that there's also a real commitment to improving safety in venues. Tragedies like this must not happen again.
