Helicopter crash in Benevento: pilot still seriously burned

Venanzio Rapolla is dying at the Cardarelli Hospital in Naples. The prosecutor's office is investigating the case.

Benevento – Venanzio Rapolla, 68, a former Air Force colonel and pilot of the helicopter that crashed yesterday afternoon in the province of Benevento, remains in critical condition. The only passenger on board, 76-year-old businessman Pasquale Esposito from Sannio, also died in the accident.

Rapolla, who suffered burns over 90% of his body, was transferred overnight from the San Pio Hospital in Benevento to the Cardarelli burns center in Naples, via another rescue helicopter. The details of the crash are being examined by the Benevento Prosecutor's Office, which has opened an investigation to determine the cause.

Venanzio Rapolla's condition is very worrying. I hope the doctors can do everything they can for him. It's sad to see such a tragic situation, especially when lives like Pasquale Esposito's are at stake.
