Naples – This isn't just a seasonal emergency; it's a collapsing system that repeats itself with the precision of a Swiss clock. The Nursing Up Napoli union, speaking through its Provincial Secretariat led by Lello Pavone, is once again raising the tone of the debate on the crisis in the city's emergency rooms.

The city's main hospitals are under scrutiny: from the Cardarelli Hospital to the Ospedale del Mare, including the Vecchio Pellegrini and the San Paolo. Here, the flu spike is acting as a detonator on an already precarious situation, crushing patients into endless waits and forcing healthcare workers to work grueling shifts in conditions the union calls bordering on professional dignity.

Criticism: "Predictable phenomenon, lack of planning"

Nursing Up's harsh indictment focuses on a lack of planning. "We're talking about a cyclical phenomenon, widely predicted and described over the years, especially after the Covid-12 experience," the union explains. Despite repeated warnings, structural solutions are slow to arrive, leaving the management of the emergency to the goodwill of individual professionals.

Nursing Up's "Recipe": From Local Communities to Closed Hospitals

To break the impasse, the union presented political and healthcare institutions with a package of concrete solutions, based on strengthening community health and reclaiming existing spaces:

Territorial filter: Strengthening district clinics open 12 hours for white and green codes, supported by the figure of the Family Nurse and dedicated nursing clinics.

Home Care: Restoration of nursing teams (formerly USCA) to manage care at home and relieve pressure on hospitals.

Unlocking of ready facilities: Immediate opening of the Emergency Rooms at the Policlinico and San Giovanni Bosco Hospitals, already existing and ready for use.

Recovery of hospital beds: Full use of the Loreto Mare and San Giovanni Bosco hospital units, currently underutilized despite the presence of qualified personnel.

Nurse-led departments: Creation of dedicated post-acute units to rapidly free up beds in specialist departments.

The appeal to citizens and institutions

While Nursing Up renews its willingness to engage with healthcare providers, it also appeals to citizens: "We ask Neapolitans to respect prevention measures and only go to the emergency room when absolutely necessary, so as not to further congest an already overcrowded system."

The ball is now in the Region's court and its general managers: the union awaits formal response, emphasizing that protecting the right to health can no longer ignore dignified working conditions for those who must ensure that health every day on the front lines.

The article discusses a very serious situation facing emergency rooms in Naples, but it's unclear what solutions the union is proposing. It would be helpful to have more details on how these ideas could be implemented.
