On Monday morning, the preliminary hearing of Antonio Laurato, a 33-year-old from Casalnuovo di Napoli, will take place in Secondigliano prison. He was arrested on charges of extortion aggravated by mafia methods and facilitation of the Rea-Veneruso clan.
The order, issued by the investigating judge at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office, also affected five other affiliates, including the "super boss" Francesco Rea, known as "O Pagliesco", believed to be the regent of the organization.
According to investigators, Laurato isn't just a member, but the illegitimate son of boss Rea—the result of an extramarital affair—and his direct link to the outside world. The prosecution reconstructs a criminal network that originates inside the prison: Rea allegedly contacted his son via a "hijack phone," a device dedicated exclusively to this type of communication, to coordinate illegal activities.
Laurato would then be responsible for transmitting orders to the other members of the clan operating in the area.
The intended victims were reportedly businessmen from Casalnuovo, Volla, and surrounding towns, forced to pay sums of money to continue working. A continuous system of harassment, based on threats and violence, aimed at replenishing the gang's coffers and strengthening its control in the area northeast of Naples.
Laurato, who was represented by Vittorio Fucci, now faces his first formal appearance before the judge. Monday's hearing, scheduled for the Naples Courthouse, will be a crucial step in the investigation aimed at dismantling the operational leadership of the Rea-Veneruso clan, which has long held sway in that part of the province.

It's interesting to see how justice works in these cases, but I wonder if Laurato is really that important to the clan. The charges seem serious, but more clarity on the details of the investigation is needed to better understand the situation.
