Naples – A day destined to go down in the annals of regional sport. For the first time in history, a skier from Campania has been selected for the Winter Olympics. Sixteen-year-old Giada D'Antonio, the youngest athlete on the Italian team, will represent Italy in the slalom at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics.
Born in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, in the province of Naples, to a Neapolitan father and Colombian mother, D'Antonio is listed on the Italian Winter Sports Federation's official list of eleven athletes called up for the Alpine ski team, alongside iconic names like Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone. This achievement seemed unthinkable just eight months ago, when the young skier was selected for the FISI youth team.
Her career has accelerated with unprecedented speed. Crystal-clear talent, a strong personality, and surprising maturity: Giada, nicknamed "Black Panther" for her decisive character that complements her seemingly delicate gaze, has amazed professionals and fans far beyond her results. After her World Cup debut less than a month ago, she made the leap from the youth circuit to the White Circus, and now she's arrived at the most coveted stage: the Olympic Games.
"Thanks to our Giada, Campania skiing finally has an Olympian," said Antonio Barulli, president of the FISI Campania Committee. "Today we are writing a page in the history of the regional movement. We are proud to have watched her grow within our Committee and the ranks of the Sci Club Vesuvio. We have supported her journey for years and will continue to do so. Always Forza Black Panther."
Stefano Romano, president of the Vesuvio Ski Club, with which D'Antonio has been a member since her first skis, expressed enthusiasm: "The excitement grows day by day, after her debut on December 28th. This call-up is the culmination of the club's work and a testament to Giada's extraordinary qualities. Her key qualities remain humility and normality, values that have always guided our sporting project."
Giada D'Antonio will be at the starting gate on February 18th in Cortina. Ideally, all of Campania will be there with her: cheering, dreaming, and celebrating a story that, whatever happens, has already been written.
