Tragedy struck the community of Guardia Sanframondi this late afternoon. An elderly couple, Michele Pelosi, 84, and Maria Natalina Di Guglielmo, 86, were found dead in a pond near the picnic area in the Pineta area.
The alarm had been raised a few hours earlier by relatives, concerned about the couple's absence, who had left their home, located not far from where they were found. The relatives immediately began a search, which was then continued with the intervention of the Carabinieri of the Cerreto Sannita Company.
The tragic discovery occurred during the search operations. The firefighters of the SAF Benevento group, the Red Helmets of the Telese Terme detachment, and the 118 paramedics also intervened on the scene, and could only confirm the death of the two elderly people.
The bodies were subsequently transferred to the morgue at the Guardia Sanframondi cemetery and made available to the judicial authorities. In the coming hours, the coroner will conduct an external examination for initial assessments, while investigators work to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the incident.
At the moment, the prevailing hypothesis remains that of a tragic accident, but every useful element will be evaluated to clarify the causes of the couple's death.
