Naples – The political storm over the formation of the new regional government in Campania shows no sign of abating. At the heart of the dispute is Enzo Cuomo's move from mayor of Portici to regional councilor, a move that has come under scrutiny by the Naples Prefecture.
Maurizio Gasparri, president of the Forza Italia senators, spoke out harshly on the issue, unsparingly criticizing former Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Roberto Fico.
The technical crux of the resignation
According to Gasparri's complaint, Cuomo's appointment is legally void. The crux of the matter lies in the failure to comply with the legal deadlines: the mayor of Portici allegedly failed to wait the twenty days required for his resignation to take effect before taking up his new role in the Region.
"The Prefecture's warning is very clear," the Forza Italia representative insisted. "Cuomo couldn't abandon that inalienable term. While I respect the man, the mistake he made is clear."
The attack against Roberto Fico
The FI senatorial leader then shifted the focus to Roberto Fico, calling his position the result of "institutional ignorance" already evident in the past. "It's not surprising that Fico, like his staff, doesn't know the law," Gasparri stated. "I hope he finds some literate collaborators who can explain to him how the rules must be respected and, above all, read correctly."
An executive between feuds and partitions
Gasparri's analysis finally extended to the entire structure of the new regional government team, described as an organization born under bad auspices. "The Campania government is emerging amidst internal feuds, power-sharing, and unspeakable family feuds," the senator concluded. "In this context, lawlessness seems to reign supreme.
After all, what could we expect from certain political figures? The ball is now in the Region's court, called upon to respond to the technical findings that risk invalidating one of the executive's key pieces.

This article highlights serious problems in Campania's politics, but in my opinion, the issue of Cuomo's resignation is complicated. I don't quite understand why the law wasn't followed. Shouldn't there be clear rules to follow?
