ASL Napoli 1 Centro's new communications campaign is launching on all Videometro networks to raise awareness about the importance of free screening for the elimination of the hepatitis C virus (HCV). The face of the initiative is Neapolitan actor Massimiliano Gallo, chosen for his fame and versatility, with the goal of reaching a wide audience.
The goal is clear: to raise awareness that hepatitis C can now be treated with oral therapy, which is safe, effective, and free of significant side effects. The critical point, however, is diagnosis. The virus often causes no symptoms and can affect anyone, regardless of lifestyle. This is why screening—targeted for those aged 37-57—is crucial to detect the infection before it progresses to serious conditions such as cirrhosis or liver cancer.
"Early diagnosis and timely treatment are essential to fighting hepatitis C," emphasizes Maria Corvino, company medical director. "We offer advanced screening and treatment to help our patients overcome the disease and prevent often serious complications."
Latest-generation treatments are based on direct-acting antiviral drugs (DAAs), which block virus replication with success rates approaching 95%. Treatments are personalized to each patient.
"Our company is at the forefront of offering innovative treatments," says General Manager Gaetano Gubitosa. "We launched this campaign to raise public awareness, provide treatment, and prevent the spread of the disease."
How to take the test:
The screening is free and simple. It can be done by your GP or at many participating local pharmacies, offering a convenient, on-site option.

I agree, too, but I think many people still don't understand the importance of screening. It would be helpful to run more awareness campaigns, especially among younger people.
I read about the hepatitis C initiative and it seems important. However, I don't quite understand how the tests work and whether they're truly accessible to everyone. I hope there's more information for the public.
